What does ELD look like at NHMS?

What does ELD look like at NHMS?

At Niguel Hills Middle School, we are committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment where all English learners can thrive. We strive to provide
a rich, culturally responsive curriculum that promotes language development and academic success. Using the results of the English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC), we carefully place students in the appropriate designated ELD classes, ensuring they receive the targeted support they need. All English learners will also benefit from integrated ELD strategies embedded within their core classes, allowing them to develop their language skills while engaging with the curriculum. Our goal is to empower each student to embrace their unique cultural heritage while building strong English language proficiency. Together, we will create a community of respect, resilience, and pride, preparing our students for success in an increasingly diverse world.

English Learner Advisory Commitee (ELAC)

The English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) is essential for our school as it provides a platform for parents and guardians of English learners to engage in the decision-making process regarding their children's education. The committee fosters collaboration between families and the school, ensuring that the unique needs of English learners are met. By promoting awareness and advocating for resources and support, ELAC plays a vital role in enhancing educational outcomes and creating an inclusive environment for all students.
